ARTIST BIO

Sherren Comensoli is a Contemporary Abstract Artist based in Melbourne (Australia).

She was raised in the country in North East Victoria and moved to Melbourne in 1991 to attend the Melbourne School of Design (RMIT). She pursued an artist career in Retail Design, Visual Merchandising & then Home Styling. She has always enjoyed painting throughout her career but is now working as a full time professional artist.

“There is always abstraction in my paintings regardless of the subject. Before I start any painting I consider the environment or room setting in which it is to be placed. My paintings mostly reflect the Australian landscape, with a contemporary translation. Many of my works depict rocks, trees & rivers which remind me of the beautiful bush setting that I explored as a child and still runs through my veins. I like to use multiple layers underneath a painting and then keep building it up slowly until I have something that is substantial, complex and also restful.

Sherren is often commissioned by other Interior Stylists & Designers. Sherren herself is also a Home Stylist and is often asked by her clients to help them redecorate an entire room (or whole house) with her painting acting as the focal point. Her primary motivation when painting is to create a statement piece that will deliver soul and personality into a living space.

“When I am doing styling for a client, the starting point for decorating any room is always the artwork! I adopt a very simple formula when redecorating rooms which is this. Keep a neutral colour palette for the majority of the space eg. the walls, couches & flooring should be all kept to a timeless neutral colour palette. Whereas pieces such as the art, rugs, cushions and other decorator items can be bold statement pieces to create the unique personality of a room. My aim is keep my paintings versatile so that they can be moved around into different rooms of a home.”

Sherren works out of her gorgeous home studio in Glen Iris Melbourne where she paints most days. She is a self-proclaimed perfectionist when it comes to her work.

“Many artists will tell you, that painting is highly addictive. I live and breathe my art and think about it all the time, it’s never far from my thoughts. I often wake in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep because I have created a whole new exhibition in my head and I must get up and sketch it all down before I can go back to sleep. Creativity never sleeps!” says Sherren.
